Breakfast is a very important start to the day.  I like to make sure that what I feed my son is both nutritious and that he enjoys it.  I recently had the opportunity to review Alpha-Bits cereal.

I was happy when I learned  that Alpha-Bits cereal have 20 grams of whole grains as well as 12 essential vitamins and nutrients per serving.  Included in this are Zinc and Iron which are nutrients that support healthy brain development which is very important to me as a mom to a pre-school kid.

My son Devin just turned 5 and he is so eager to learn how to read.  He is constantly working on his spelling and asking me to teach him how to spell new words.  Devin is so proud of himself as well should he be.  He is learning so much.

Devin Spells

Devin had such a good time learning as he ate his breakfast so I decided to do another activity with him.  With it being the holidays, Devin encounters so much family that he doesn’t always see.  So, I decided to work on a family tree with him so he could really grasp who was who.  He learned to spell their names using Alpha-Bits . You can see how we did this below.

FAMILY TREE ACTIVITY:

-Draw a tree branches
-Write out family members names on branches in proper linear order
-Then locate the letters of names using Alpha-Bits cereal and glue them underneath

As we know children sometimes play in their food so why not make breakfast or snack time a learning moment.

There are so many different letter/word activities you can do with your little ones using Alpha-Bits.

Watch below video to see more learning in action.

We've never had this cereal for breakfast since A.J. is allergic to milk. But it would make a great snack as dry cereal to encourage his reading and writing. I'm glad Devin enjoyed it!

We love Alpha-Bits cereal :) It's yummy and definitely fun for kids to "play" with their food. A family tree activity is both great for spelling but also for family history.

I am going to inform all my family & friends with young children about this idea - I think its great - the kids get to enjoy food & learning at the same time - makes teaching as a Mom that little tad easier, great blog, thank you.
