Here we go again… my renewed journey of weight loss

As you all know about this time last year I embarked on a journey of weight loss and I must admit I have failed miserably.  Although I worked out quite regularly with a personal trainer I didn’t lose a pound and I actually gained a few.  The reason being is because my diet was so poor.  I consumed way too many sweets, carbs and overall too many calories.  I guess I learned the hard way that you can’t out exercise a poor diet.  It’s such a shame because I worked really hard during my workouts.

I refuse to give up though, I just need to start it all over again.  Now that I am committed to working out, I  plan to focus on a healthier eating plan.  I am going to start by eating more veggies and fruits and eliminating some things from my diet.  Below are a few of the changes I plan to make in my diet to help me reach my weight loss goal.

1. No more sodas and super sugary drinks
2. Reduce the amount of cheese I consumed (can’t totally nix this, it’s so delish)
3. No Red meat (this is going to be hard because I love burgers and steak)
4. Reduce the amounts of sweets I eat
5. Reduce my bread intake

I know this journey won’t be an easy one but it is a necessary one.  Sometimes choosing the right foods and being mindful of my portions is such a struggle.

At times I really could use some real inspiration and that’s when I turn to one of my favorite weight loss blogs, A Black Girls Guide To Weight Loss.  Here I can find inspirational stories, tips, exercise information, and healthy recipes.  Just reading about the authors’ journey is that extra encouragement I need.  It shows me that with hard work and dedication that anything is possible.

I know I am not the only one who is on a journey to lose weight and get healthy.  In fact two of my friends are on a journey of their own.

See what my friends Kat and Joyce are doing to get healthy and lose weight.

Are you on the road to losing weight and living a healthier lifestyle?  If so … leave a comment below and share with me what you are doing and what’s been working for you.

You can do it!!! I have seen you really embrace working out this past year and I know you will be able to do the same with improving your eating habits.

You can DO THIS! You can do THIS! I think you will succeed this time for sure. And yes only do WATER and HOT TEA (with no sugar!!) Try to get used to eating less and less cheese, it' the devil! LOLOL!! Just playing. I love cheese too - but I don't eat it like I used to and processed cheese is NO BUENO! Toss the sweets, at least until you get to a wieght goal you are happy with. I heard a wise person say, eat healthy 6 days a week and do what you want on day 7!! What will be your day 7! I look forward to hearing about your journey!

Daphne - You've already taken the first step in restarting. I would also add drinking more water to your list. It's amazing how much less you snack and crave foods as water will make you feel full. Also, try not to eat at least an 1 1/2 hours before you go to bed, use smaller plates for your meals at home, and keep healthy snacks with you so you have less of a temptation to eat unhealthy snacks when you're hungry. When you eat out, try the "healthy/fit choice" items on the menu if they have any and only eat until your full. Don't overeat. If you use a big plate at home when you eat, fill 3/4 of it with veggies. As I tell my daughter all the time, losing weight is more mental than it is physical. You got this!

I'm right there with you on your journey! Lord knows my diet is poor. My achilles heel is carbohydrates; I love bread and sweets! I'm going to make an effort to eat more fruits and vegetables and continue with my fitness regimen. Pilates has worked wonders for me. I'm noticing more definition in my abs and arms, which helps to motivate me to stick with my workout.

Good Luck! You can do it! I am currently re-starting my weightloss journey for the 100th time! I am sick of making excuses. I had to really change my thought process this time. I always start off great then start slacking..then give up but NOT ANYMORE!!

Thanks for the support. Yes I will stay clear of the sweets. Yes cheese is my weakness so I will only eat in moderation. I think having a cheat day is a great idea as long as I don't go crazy with it ;)

Verdina- Thanks for your reply, yes I agree with you that it is mental. I recently stopped paying for personal training because my mindset just wasnt right when It comes to the food/calories I consumed. I have decided to workout on my own until I start eating better and can justify the expense of a trainer. Thank You for your tips I will definitely use them.

Thanks Jen, and good luck to you as well. What I am hearing repeatedly is that you have to have the right attitude (mindset) when it comes to making a life change of eating healthier. Check in from time to time and let me know how its going for you.
